New Resource For Those Who Can’t Sleep

National Sleep Foundation launches comprehensive insomnia resource center

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) launched a new website today, www.insomnia.sleepfoundation.org, to help individuals who suffer from insomnia. The website is a comprehensive resource containing information on insomnia causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options. It also contains new criteria on insomnia from the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-V), and other key information including sleep expert advice and easy-to-read visual fact sheets.

In a 2005 National Sleep Foundation poll, more than half of people reported at least one symptom of insomnia at least a few nights per week. Based on the poll results, those suffering from insomnia typically can’t get to sleep, can’t stay asleep, or wake up too early. Inability to get a refreshing night’s sleep on a regular basis may have a detrimental impact on mental and physical health.

“When patients consistently can’t get to sleep or stay asleep, they look for help,” says David Cloud, National Sleep Foundation CEO. “The National Sleep Foundation’s new insomnia resource center is designed to help patients better understand insomnia and set them on a path towards healthier sleep.”
