Lyme Disease

Keep yourself and your family safe and healthy this season by taking the time to learn about pesky insects such as deer ticks. The most common infection caused by deer ticks is Lyme disease. The bacteria that cause the disease usually create symptoms such as an expanding rash that may look like a bull’s-eye, joint pain, chills, fever, headaches, and fatigue. To avoid the disease altogether, take these simple precautions:

Wear enclosed shoes and light-colored clothing

Scan clothes and any exposed skin frequently

Stay on cleared, well-traveled trails

Use insect repellant (free of DEET and other harmful chemicals)

Avoid sitting directly on the ground

Keep long hair tied back

Do a final, full-body tick-check at the end of the day (also check children and pets)
