Whiter Teeth

Tips for a bright smile

Face it, one of the first things that you notice when meeting someone new is their smile. A bright, natural smile always catches your attention. Over 90 percent of people believe that a bright, white smile makes us more attractive to potential mates. Even if you don't have a big first date planned, you can still focus on getting whiter and healthier teeth.

Not only does oral care play a major role in overall well-being (gum inflammation is associated with cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, and diabetes), a 2007 survey of more than 500 adults by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry showed that your smile can have a major impact on other people's perceptions of your attractiveness, happiness, intelligence, career status, and more. Whitening your teeth does not need to be a difficult process. Before you place an order for a whitening product on the Internet or invest in an expensive dental process, try these natural tips to brighten up your smile.

1. Drink water between sips of wine—no matter what color wine. Red wine stains your teeth, but a 2009 German study found that white wine is also erosive and highly acidic, making teeth even more susceptible to stains.

2. Select a dye-free mouthwash, such as Breath Blast by Kiss My Face. Popular blue-, green-, or yellow-hued rinses can actually discolor teeth over time.

3. Snack on raw apples, cauliflower, carrots, and celery. These crunchy, fibrous fruits and vegetables give teeth a gentle stain-removing scrub.

4. Avoid colas and coffees that can stain those pearly whites.
