Teen Meditation

Several of San Francisco’s middle and high schools have recently adopted the idea of “quiet time.” Studies of these schools have shown a 45 percent drop in suspensions, a 98 percent attendance rate, and a 10 percent improvement on test scores. The quiet time comes in the form of two stress-reducing 15-minute transcendental meditation sessions. This form of meditation allows your mind to settle inward and is known as the most silent and peaceful level of consciousness, according to the David Lynch Foundation. Kids in these schools have also been significantly less depressed, less stressed, and have greatly improved in areas of self-esteem and academics.
