Soothe Eczema Naturally

Eczema is uncomfortable, itchy, and for some people, embarrassing. Dr. Dumont of the Raby Institute for Integrative Medicine shares a few tips to improve and soothe your skin the natural way.

>> Eliminate Allergens and Irritants: Simple cosmetics, laundry detergent, lotions, shampoo, jewelry, dust, pollen, and even food can be loaded with allergens for those with sensitivities. Find the sources of any allergens and remove them from your environment if possible.

>> Protect Your Skin: Winter may be over, but the weather can still damage your skin. To keep your skin from becoming irritated, apply castor or sesame oil after you’re done bathing to seal out bacteria and viruses that may cause irritation.

>> Soothe the Immune System: The stress of the gloomy winter can wear down on your immune system and thus exacerbate eczema. To boost your immune system, take omega-3 fatty acids such as fish or flaxseed oil, drink oolong tea, and take a 1000mg gamma linolenic acid (GLA) supplement daily.

>> Consider the Cause: Eczema is stressful, to say the least. So it’s understandable to find a temporary fix, but discovering the true root of the problem is key to long-term treatment success. Consider acupuncture and other holistic approaches to focus on internal imbalances that could cause eczema.
