Build Your Bones

A new study of professional baseball players showed that building bone mass during youth can maintain bone quality as we age. Researchers discovered that players’ throwing arms had nearly double the strength of non-throwing arms and about 50 percent greater mass, size, and thickness. After throwing activities ended, players still maintained about one-third the bone strength benefits and half the bone size benefits; continued throwing exercises resulted in greater maintenance of these benefits.
