3 Ways to Relieve Kids' Eczema

By Meghan Rabbitt

New research published in the journal Pediatrics found that eczema is on the rise in children. To calm the dry, itchy patches of skin and frequent rashes that can result from this condition:

1. Get your child to drink more water, since well-hydrated skin itches less. As a rule, kids should get an ounce of fluid per pound of body weight per day.

2. Switch to a chemical-free laundry detergent—and skip fabric softeners altogether. Irritants left in clothes can exacerbate your child’s symptoms.

3. Trim your little one’s fingernails at least once a week, so he won’t make problem areas worse when he scratches them.
