Homeopathy for Optimal Health

The key to avoiding colds and the flu? Be a healthy person.

According to Colorado-based naturopathic physician Lisa Amerine, keeping your body in optimal health will diminish your likelihood of getting sick. I recently attended Amerine’s talk, “When Pigs Flu,” where she offered safe and proven-effective homeopathic treatments to cure contagious disease. She also gave some tips for how to stay healthy and avoid illness. (It really is that easy!) Here’s how:

Rest: Even when we are well, Amerine says, we need to take the necessary time to wind down, relax, and sleep in order to ensure that our hormones and cortisol levels are in balance. It is beneficial to maintain a consistent schedule; go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.

Stay hydrated: We’ve heard it over and over, but it is still a struggle for many of us. When we are dehydrated, our bodies do not have the proper tools to optimally function. Amerine recommends drinking at least half of your weight in ounces daily. Add eight ounces for every 1,000 feet above sea level.

Avoid sugar: Sweets suppress the immune system and wreak havoc on our ability to fight off infection and illness. Along with plenty of water, Amerine recommends substituting sugary beverages with herbal teas and homemade ginger lemonade made with agave.

Minimize stress: Whether in our personal or work lives (or both), we all experiences stress. What is most important is to manage that stress through healthy exercise and/or meditation.

  • Guys… guys, our US democracy doesn’t looks like it seems to function so good lately. I wonder sometimes if european and other countries are laughing at us. We are starting to look like a 3rd world nation these days !

I had no idea that sugar and sweets suppress the immune system! Guess I’ll be reaching for the teas next time… I like these quick blurbs of good information and healthy suggestions. Easy to read (for those of us who don’t have a lot of free time) and great info. Do you happen to know of any natural and herbal supplements I can take when I feel something coming on? Or for when I travel? I used to use Zicam but heard it was not that great for you.
