Store shelves can overflow with countless beauty products, offering access to pearly white teeth; beautiful, luscious skin; and thick, glorious locks. But many of the unnatural ingredients within these products could be doing you and the planet more harm than good. When it comes to taking care of your hair, specifically, there are many natural treatments for adding shine, bounce, and even a deep clean, without the need for harmful ingredients and chemicals.

1. Avocado Hair Moisturizer

Take one ripe avocado, add a tablespoon of natural honey, and mash the two together until they form a smooth paste. Run the mixture through your hair and leave for half an hour before washing out to reveal shiny, moisturized hair.

2. Natural Protein Treatment with Eggs

Wash your hair with your normal shampoo and towel dry until your hair is damp. Put three natural eggs into your blender and add a tablespoon of lemon juice. Once this is mixed together, run it through your hair and leave it in for roughly 20 minutes; then wash out with cold water for refreshed and repaired hair.

3. Natural Hair Conditioner with Eggs

If you are looking for a natural conditioner and have a few more eggs left over, you can quite easily make your own. Beat an egg until it's nice and frothy, then pour in half a teaspoon of vitamin E oil and a 3/4 cup of room temperature water. Apply the mixture the same way you would natural conditioner to prevent frizzy hair and excessive dryness.

4. Tea Treatment for Glossy Locks

If you want to add some extra gloss to your hair, take two tea bags and steep them in boiling water for roughly 10 minutes. Let the tea cool to room temperature and then wash it through your hair just like you would shampoo. Let it sit for 10 minutes or so, and then wash and condition your hair. Chamomile is recommended for blondes, rooibos for redheads, and black tea for brunettes.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar for Extra Shine and Deep Clean

Mix together apple cider vinegar and warm water in a 1:1 ratio. Apply the mixture to your hair, being careful to keep it completely out of your eyes. Allow it to sit in your hair for roughly five minutes. Be sure to rinse thoroughly, unless you want to keep the strong scent of apple cider vinegar about you all day! This will add extra shine to your hair, whilst refreshing and invigorating the scalp.

Adding a little glamour and sparkle to your appearance needn’t harm you or the planet. Using the natural ingredients above can achieve the same results as many store-bought products and cause no harm to the environment once they go down your drain.
