A. Whatever you do, don’t try to scrub away your backne and buttne with soap, says Joni Keim Loughran, author of Natural Skin Care (North Atlantic Books, 1998). Soap dries out skin and creates a buildup of dead skin cells that clogs pores, she says. When that happens, acne results. Three surefire fixes:
* Mix ¼ cup of apple-cider vinegar in a pint of water, spray it on those hard-to-reach places, and let the area air-dry. This homemade toner releases trapped bacteria.
* When you see a blemish surfacing, ice the spot for 5 seconds, pause for 10 seconds, then repeat two more times. Dry the area, then pat the blemish with a mixture of 1 part sweet thyme essential oil and 1 part jojoba oil.
* Wear a breathable fabric like cotton so moisture doesn’t get trapped and promote bacteria growth.
