Q: I’m in my early 40s and still menstruating regularly, but am well aware that perimenopause is just around the corner—a special concern since I’d like to have a baby. Are there any herbs I can take to improve my fertility?
A: Women approaching perimenopause often experience irregular ovulation, making it harder to conceive. If you fall into this category, try taking chaste tree berry. This herb can actually make ovulation more regular. I recommend taking a teaspoon of liquid extract once a day or an extract that contains 215 mg of chaste tree berry standardized to contain .6 percent of an ingredient in the plant called aucubin. This is perfectly safe to use until you find out you’re pregnant.
