New Research: Curcumin over Prozac
In the past, you may have been told that Prozac will cure your depression, OCD, eating disorders, or even panic disorders. But a new study shows that curcumin may be the new, and better, answer.
The most recent research involved patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). The patients were given 20 mg of fluoxetine (Prozac), curcumin (1000 mg), or a combination of both for several weeks. While the study showed the outcomes to be fairly similar, the report states that curcumin is just as effective and safe for patients with MDD as fluoxetine. Previous studies had only tested the effectiveness of curcumin on animals, but this study could be what physicians needed to actually suggest it as a Prozac alternative. Curcumin is also an extremely safe option, compared to the alternative, which has been known to have toxicity issues, as well as to trigger suicidal thoughts.
