Health Tips: Vitamin D Shows Eye Health Benefits

Dietary supplements of vitamin D3 may boost visual function in lab mice suggests a new study from the UK with potential implications for the eye health market.

The vitamin showed a reduction in the buildup of amyloid beta, a risk factor for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Researchers from the University College London supplemented the diets of lab mice for six weeks. It was found that the vitamin D supplements were associated with a significant reduction in inflammation in the retina as well as a lowered level of amyloid beta.
