Health Tips: Get Ready For the Switch

The end of Daylight Saving Time is right around the corner. With it comes the body’s inability to fall asleep at your normal bedtime hours. Your body naturally creates melatonin, a hormone that is a necessary part in the sleep-wake cycle. Most will jump for the synthetic melatonin (produced in the lab or from cow urine), but this is not as effective. Studies have shown that synthetic melatonin can stunt growth among young people, as well as cause dizziness and headaches. If choosing to use a supplement, look for ones that contain natural melatonin instead of the synthetic versions.

The best bet is to receive your melatonin naturally. Start incorporating some of these common foods in your daily life:

>>Grape skins

>>Olive oil

>>Rice

>>Tomatoes

>>Tart cherries

>>Walnuts

A recent study also showed that certain tropical fruits, (pineapples, bananas, and oranges) significantly increased melatonin levels after consumption.
