Health News: Lightening the LOAD

Late-onset Alzheimer’s (LOAD) is a fast-growing disease that has, thus far, eluded attempts to understand its causes. Researchers recently completed a study of the DNA of 376 deceased patients with LOAD—in the process they created a biological network model that provides a new comprehensive understanding of the disease. A network of genes involved in the inflammatory response in the brain is a crucial mechanism—the next step is to identify more specific compounds to hit the newly-identified pathway.
